Having butterflies leading up to and on your wedding day is totally normal. Most couples experience some level of wedding nerves on their big day. 7 Tips for Overcoming Wedding Nerves

1. Go to Bed Early the Night Before Your Wedding

If you’re experiencing any amount of wedding nerves, you may find it harder to fall asleep the night before your wedding. Additionally, if you’re sleeping somewhere other than your normal bed, like at a hotel or Airbnb, the new environment may make it even harder to get a good night’s rest. And while you may be tempted to stay up all night celebrating with your friends and family, it’s best to end a rehearsal dinner or welcome party early so you have time to relax, unwind, and actually fall asleep at a decent time.

2. Plan Time to Relax on Your Wedding Morning

It’s really important to not feel rushed while getting ready for your wedding. Be sure to plan enough time to have a calm, relaxed morning. If you have a typical morning routine, don’t skip it on your wedding day. Doing something familiar is actually one of the best ways for how to stay calm on your wedding day.

If you don’t already have a morning routine, here is a great way to start your wedding morning in Lake Tahoe:

Lake Tahoe Wedding Day Morning Routine

  1. Wake up (and get up) a couple of hours before you have to start getting ready.

  2. Stay “unplugged” for at least the first hour of your morning to spend some quality time with yourself.

  3. Eat a healthy breakfast (see the next tip for why!).

  4. Spend time journaling and reflecting–this is a great way to get all of the emotions you’re feeling down on paper, which can help calm wedding nerves.

  5. Wake up your body by stretching, practicing yoga, or going on a light walk and taking in all the beautiful Lake Tahoe views

  6. Consider taking a relaxing bath if you have time or pamper yourself with a soothing facial.

  7. Start prepping your wedding accessories and getting ready for your wedding!

3. Don’t Skip Breakfast

While many couples say their wedding nerves cause them to not be able to eat the morning of their wedding, this is not the day to skip breakfast. Just make sure you have something healthy and hearty, rather than greasy to help ease your stomach butterflies instead of making them worse. Try a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit and granola. Pair your breakfast with a nice cup of hot tea to help you (and your stomach nerves) relax the morning of your Lake Tahoe wedding.

4. Diffuse Calming Scents in Your Getting Ready Room

Calming scents can do a lot to help ease your wedding nerves. Try diffusing lavender essential oil while you’re getting ready or burning your favorite smelling candles. Another option is to burn traditional sage sticks, which are both cleansing and calming.

5. Play Your Favorite Music

Create a playlist of your favorite songs ahead of time so you have great music to listen to while getting ready for your Lake Tahoe wedding. Whether it’s spa-like relaxation music, love songs (hello, wedding day!), or your favorite hits from the early 2000s, play whatever makes you feel the happiest and most relaxed. Listening, singing, and dancing to your favorite songs is a great way to calm your wedding nerves and start your day off on the right foot.

6. Surround Yourself with Your Favorite People

Who you have around you on the morning of your wedding plays a big role in staying calm. Make sure you surround yourself with friends and family that are supportive, loving, and fun. When you start to feel anxious or nervous about your wedding, share those feelings with someone you trust. Keeping everything bottled up inside will only make it harder to enjoy your special day. Remember, wedding nerves are completely normal, so there’s no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed.

7. Consider Having a First Look with Your Husband or Wife-to-Be

It can feel extremely overwhelming walking down the aisle with everyone’s eyes on you. At the same time, you’re likely seeing your spouse-to-be for the first time that day. There’s a lot to take in that it can often make your wedding nerves worse. One way to take pressure off this moment and stay calm at your Lake Tahoe wedding is to have a first look with your future spouse before walking down the aisle.

A private intimate moment with the one you love may be exactly what you need for all wedding nerves to cease. Be sure to ask your wedding photographer to capture the special moment of seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day.
